Death toll in Texas flash flood reaches at 50, dozens still missing

Members of a search and rescue team look for people near Camp Mystic in Hunt, Texas, on Saturday.

At least 51 people have been confirmed dead following devastating flash floods in central Texas, authorities reported on Saturday.

Many of the victims are believed to be children, as rescue teams continue their desperate search for dozens who remain unaccounted for, including campers and local residents.

The floods struck earlier this week with little warning, sweeping through riverbanks and low-lying areas.

On Saturday, rescue workers combed through wreckage along the Guadalupe River, now strewn with broken trees, overturned vehicles, and thick layers of muddy debris.

Particular concern surrounds the fate of 27 girls from Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp located in Kerr County along the Guadalupe River.

The camp was directly hit by the powerful flash flood, and the girls have not been seen since. Officials say most of the identified victims were located in the vicinity of the camp.

Despite over 36 hours of intense rescue efforts, authorities have yet to confirm the total number of people missing.

Emergency personnel are working around the clock, while families anxiously await updates on their loved ones.

Local officials have urged the public to avoid affected areas to allow emergency services to carry out rescue operations safely and efficiently.
