Gaza’s suffering continues: 150 more dead in Israeli attacks

The violence in Gaza shows no signs of slowing down. In the past two days, at least 150 Palestinians have died as a result of Israeli military strikes, with many others wounded.

This marks a tragic continuation of the 15-month-long conflict that has now claimed over 45,000 Palestinian lives and injured hundreds of thousands more. Al Jazeera has reported the latest developments.

On Friday, January 3, Israeli airstrikes across Gaza killed at least 73 people, while another 77 Palestinians lost their lives in attacks the day before.

Many others have been trapped under the debris of collapsed buildings, and there are concerns that a significant number of them may be dead.

The current crisis began on October 7 of last year, when Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel, killing 1,200 Israelis and taking nearly 250 Israeli and foreign citizens hostage, bringing them back to Gaza.

Israel retaliated by declaring war on Hamas and launching bombings and ground assaults that have continued since. As of now, the death toll for Palestinians has surpassed 45,000, and more than 100,000 people have been injured.

In November 2023, after mediation by Qatar and Egypt, a seven-day ceasefire was agreed between Hamas and Israel.

During this time, Hamas released over 100 Israeli hostages.

However, the group still holds 96 prisoners, with 62 of them believed to be alive, according to Israeli sources.
