Israel has begun issuing call-up orders to tens of thousands of reservists in preparation for an intensified military campaign in Gaza, AFP reports citing Israeli media reports on Saturday.

The move aims to replace conscripts and active-duty troops currently stationed in Israel and the occupied West Bank, allowing them to be reassigned to the Gaza front.

Israel’s public broadcaster stated that the security cabinet is set to convene on Sunday to approve the expanded offensive.

This escalation follows the resumption of major Israeli operations in Gaza on March 18, after a two-month ceasefire failed to progress further.

The truce, originally brokered by Qatar, the United States, and Egypt in January, has seen little advancement in recent weeks.

Amid the stalemate, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has openly criticized Qatar, which hosts Hamas‍‍`s political leadership. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Netanyahu accused the Gulf nation of “playing both sides” and challenged it to choose between “civilization” and “Hamas barbarism.”

Facing pressure from his far-right coalition partners, Netanyahu has continued to advocate for the military campaign. “Israel will win this just war with just means,” he declared.
