The prime minister of Japan said that the country needs to tighten security for the arrival of the Group of Seven officials on Sunday, one day after an explosive was thrown at him during a campaign event.
Prime Minister Fumio Kishida escaped uninjured after a device, allegedly a pipe bomb, was thrown at him while campaigning in the western city of Wakayama on Saturday.
A 24-year-old man was arrested, but he has yet to clarify his intentions for the attack, which occurred as Japan hosted two G7 ministerial sessions.
When the incident occurred on Saturday, Kishida was set to make a speech at a fishing port in Wakayama.
A metal canister was thrown from among a small crowd behind the prime minister, and he moved before being surrounded and taken away by security.
Security officers and civilians on the scene swiftly caught a man, identified as Ryuji Kimura, 24, from Hyogo, also in western Japan.
