Several loud blasts were reported in central Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities on Monday, local officials said, a day after an explosion on a bridge linking Russia to occupied Crimea.
The explosions came as the UN General Assembly was set to open debate on a draft resolution condemning Russia’s annexation of four Ukrainian regions.
Ukrainian authority informed about several death and injuries in affected areas of Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities.
The apparent strikes mark the first time in several months that Ukraine`s capital is targeted.
They come two days after the only bridge linking Russia with occupied Crimea was damaged in a blast, sparking calls in Moscow for reprisals
Meanwhile, Ukraine`s President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia targeted the country`s energy infrastructure during Monday`s strikes across the country, including by Iran-made drones.
In a social media post, Zelensky said attacks also took place in Dnipro, Vinnytsia and Ivano-Frankivsk in central Ukraine, Zaporizhzhia in the south and Kharkiv and Sumy regions in the east, among others.
