The United States has imposed new sanctions on Myanmar. In 2021, the junta government seized power in the country by removing Aung San Suu Kyi through a military coup. The Biden administration said that the ban was imposed to increase pressure on the junta government to return power to a civilian administration.
This information is known in the report of the Turkish press Anadolu Agency.
Citing a statement from the US Treasury Department, Anadolu reports that the sanctions have been imposed on two individuals and six entities linked to Myanmar`s military.
The US Treasury Department alleges that those people and organizations are indirectly helping the Myanmar military to attack civilians. They are helping the Myanmar military to supply, import, and stockpile fighter jets. The US Treasury Department claims that the Myanmar military continues to bomb and attack the country`s civilian population with such support.
The country has been in chaos since the Myanmar military seized power in February 2021.
Protesters are fighting against the military. Anti-junta government and resistance forces are formed. Blood movements, conflicts, and anti-coup protests are still going on.
There has been no response from the junta government in this regard since the US sanctions.
