Punjab Declares Emergency Following Indian Missile Strikes

Officers and staff from civil defence and other relevant departments have been called to duty.

Pakistan’s Punjab province has declared a state of emergency after Indian missile strikes late Tuesday night, prompting the closure of all educational institutions and placing emergency services on high alert.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced the emergency during a press briefing on Wednesday, as reported by Reuters.

“All leaves for doctors and medical personnel have been cancelled, and civil defense workers are being called back to duty,” she said.

The missile attacks, carried out by India in response to the recent assault in Pahalgam, Kashmir, struck multiple locations in Pakistan, killing at least eight people and injuring 35.

Pakistan responded with counterattacks later that same night, escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed nations.
