A court in Bhola on Sunday sentenced three people to death and two others to life imprisonment for killing a housewife in 2022.
The verdict was delivered by Additional District and Sessions Judge Md Shawkat Hossain.
The condemned convicts are Abdul Malek Pandit, Mohammad Ibrahim and Abdul Mannan. The court also fined each of them Tk 20,000.
Two others — Mohammad Selim and Mohammad Rafique — were sentenced to life in prison in the same case. They were also fined Tk 20,000 each.
The court also handed jail terms to five more accused for helping the killers escape after the murder.
According to the prosecution, housewife Bakul Begum was hacked to death while sleeping on a veranda in front of a house in Charfesson upazila on November 29, 2022.
A case was later filed over the incident.
After reviewing witness statements and evidence, the court acquitted another accused as the charges against him could not be proven.
