The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 on Sunday sent former vice-chancellor (VC) of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR), Professor Dr Md Hasibur Rashid, to jail after showing him arrested in a case filed over the killing of Abu Sayeed during the July Mass Uprising in 2024.

“Dr Hasibur Rashid was convicted and sentenced to 10 years‍‍` jail in the case on April 9, 2026. He was tried in absentia. A team from Mohammadpur Police Station arrested him on Saturday, and he was produced before the tribunal on Sunday. The tribunal sent him to jail with the conviction warrant,” said prosecutor Faruk Ahmed.

Replying to a question from newsmen, the prosecutor added that the convict would be able to file an appeal against his conviction, as the full text of the judgment has not yet been released.

“He would be able to file the appeal within three days of getting the certified copy of the judgment,” the prosecutor added.

Earlier on April 9, 2026, the second tribunal convicted and sentenced two former policemen to death and 28 others to various jail terms in a crimes-against-humanity case filed over the killing of BRUR student Abu Sayeed.
