The personal information of Bangladesh`s smart National Identity Card (NID) holders is now easily accessible on a channel on the instant messaging platform Telegram, according to an official data breach report.
About 120 million voters` details, of which 55 million have smart NID cards, are stored on the nation`s NID server.
When a 10-digit NID number is given, a Telegram bot reportedly provides users with their names, genders, parents` names, phone numbers, addresses, photographs, and other personal information.
The system manager at the NID division of the Election Commission, Mohammad Ashraf Hussain, told the media that he learned about the problem on Tuesday but was still unsure of who was responsible for the Telegram channel.
It has been established that one of the 174 entities with access to the NID server is how the data leak happened.
