The Pure Food Court has mandated the immediate removal of all SMC Plus electrolyte drinks from the market.
Tanveer Sinha, owner of ACME Agrovet and Beverages Ltd, the company that manufactures SMC Plus orange and lemon-flavored electrolyte drinks, has been fined Tk16,00,000.

Judge Alaul Akbar of the Pure Food Court issued the order on Sunday.

The case originated last Tuesday when Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) Inspector Mohammad Kamrul Hasan filed a complaint against five companies for distributing unauthorized electrolyte drinks harmful to human health.

In response, the court summoned the owners of SMC Plus, Pran‍‍`s Aktive+ Electrolyte Drink, Brüvana, Recharge Electrolyte Drink, and Turbo Energy Drink.

This morning, ACME‍‍`s head, Tanveer Sinha, appeared in court, pleaded guilty, and requested bail.
Tanveer Sinha stated, “We were unaware that the product lacked a license.”

Subsequently, the court imposed a fine of Tk16,00,000 and ordered the withdrawal of all SMC Plus products from the market.

The decision was confirmed by Kamrul Hasan, an inspector of the Food Safety Authority.
