The body of Rahanuma Sarah, a 32-year-old newsroom editor at Gazi Television (GTV), was recovered floating in Hatirjheel Lake in Dhaka on early Wednesday.
Pedestrians who found her body removed it from the lake and transported it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where she was pronounced dead around 2:00am.
Md Sagar, one of the pedestrians, reported that he saw her body floating in the lake before helping to bring it to the hospital.
While the police are treating the case as a suspected suicide, a full investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of her death.
Inspector Md Bachchu Mia, who oversees the DMCH police outpost, confirmed that her body has been moved to the DMCH morgue for further examination.
On Tuesday night, around 11pm, just hours before her body was discovered, Rahanuma Sarah posted a troubling message on her Facebook timeline: "It is better to die than live to be dead."
This message has prompted further scrutiny as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.
However, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of recently ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina termed this incident as "brutal attack on freedom of expression in Bangladesh".
