Robbers abducted an eight-month-old infant after looting a house in the Medical Staff Quarters of Azimpur area in Dhaka on Friday morning.

The incident occurred around 9 am, with the culprits fleeing with cash and valuables, including the child. Police are yet to arrest anyone or rescue the baby.

Kashoinur, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lalbagh Police Station, confirmed the incident but noted that the child’s parents have not filed a formal complaint yet. "We have obtained some CCTV footage, but the visuals are unclear. Efforts to rescue the child are ongoing," he said.

According to the OC, a woman had moved into the flat of Farzana Akhter as a sublet tenant the previous day. On Friday morning, two men, posing as the woman’s brothers, arrived and robbed the house, holding Farzana Akhter hostage. They took cash amounting to Tk 1.5 lakh and four tolas of gold jewelry before escaping with Farzana’s child.

Farzana Akhter, a resident of the staff quarters and an employee of the Ministry of Home Affairs, lives in the flat with her husband and child.

Police are continuing their investigation to locate the child and arrest the suspects.
