Police to be on high alert for Janmashtami celebration: DMP Commissioner

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruk on Tuesday said the DMP will be on high alert to ensure that there is no problem in observing Janmashtami and all security measures will be taken, reports UNB.

The DMP Commissioner came up with the comment while addressing a coordination meeting regarding the security and traffic management of the Janmashtami procession held at the DMP Headquarters on Tuesday.

Janmashtami, also known simply as Krishnashtami, Janmashtami, or Gokulashtami, is an annual Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Krishna. Janmashtami procession will be taken out in a festive atmosphere on September 6 in Dhaka.

Addressing the meeting, the top boss of the DMP said that as it is an election year the opposition parties are now on focusing on movement. But adequate security measures will be in place, he said.

The DMP Commissioner said that the Bangladesh Police provides maximum security in every religious event.

He requested all to inform the police if there is any threat surrounding this festival.

The DMP commissioner also said that their cyber police teams are monitoring the situation so that no one can spread propaganda in the cyber world involving the festival.

The commissioner requested the police to cooperate with the information to protect the law and order of the country.

Biplab Kumar Sarkar, Joint Commissioner of Police (Operations) of DMP, separately gave a presentation on the security measures taken by them during the central Janmashtami procession.

In the meeting it was suggested for installation of high-quality CCTV cameras in every temple, starting and ending of processions at specific times, keeping sufficient number of volunteers with specific uniforms and ID cards, no gap between processions, allowing no bags in processions. It was also advised to stop playing music during Azaan and Namaz.

Alongside senior officers of the DMP, the meeting was also attended, among others, by presidents and secretaries of Bangladesh Puja Celebration Committee and, Dhaka Metropolitan Puja Celebration Committee, Sanatan Hindu religious leaders, representatives of fire service, electricity, Dhaka WASA, Dhaka north and south city Corporations, Directorate of Health, Police Headquarters, SB, NSI and other intelligence agencies.
