Bangabazar blaze: Fire Service forms probe body

A probe committee has been formed to investigate the massive fire that broke out at the Bangabazar market in Dhaka on Tuesday morning.

The five-member probe committee would be led by Lt Col Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury, director (operations and maintenance) of Fire Service and Civil Defence, to find out the cause behind the fire.

The headquarters' deputy director (Dhaka zone) Dinmoni Sharma, senior station officer of Siddik Bazar fire station, Md Shahin Alam, warehouse inspector Adhir Chandra, and Deputy Assistant Director, Md Bazlur Rashid were made members of the committee.

The committee has been asked to submit the report within the next seven days.

The devastating fire was brought under control after more than six hours of frantic efforts.

The devastating fire broke out at the market around 6:10 a.m. and soon spread. The blaze was brought under control around 12:36 pm.

Forty-eight firefighting units were working to extinguish the blaze. A barrack of the police headquarters was burnt due to the fire.
