A 20-kilometre tailback has been created on Dhaka-Tangail- Bangabandhu Bridge Highway on Friday due to a road accident on the bridge.
The traffic jam started since early Friday from the eastern side of Bangabandhu Bridge to Rasurpur in Sadar upazila.
‘One person was killed in a collision involving a bus and a pickup van near pillar no 17 on the west side of the bridge. The bridge authorities stopped collecting tolls for one hour and 40 minutes. There is also the pressure of extra vehicles,’ Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station officer incharge Shafiqul Islam confirmed the matter.
He said that the situation would be normal as the day would progress.
Eid holidaymakers, especially women and children, suffered due to the long tailback.
Rajshahi -bound bus driver Abdur Razzak, who was stuck in the Hateya area on the highway, said there were a lot of vehicles on the road.
He said that he needed over an hour to reach 5 km to get on the bridge.
Dhaka bound cattle laden trucks are moving smoothly using the opposite lane of the highway.
