A mobile court has fined a local business Tk 30,000 in Tungipara Upazila for illegally storing diesel and selling it at higher prices.
The drive was carried out on Tuesday night at Kalipada Saha Enterprise in Patgati Bazar, following information from the National Security Intelligence (NSI).
During the operation, the owners—Biswajit Saha and Gobinda Saha were fined after authorities found a large amount of fuel stored unlawfully.
The mobile court was led by Al-Amin Haldar, assistant commissioner (land) and executive magistrate of the upazila. He said around 4,500 litres of diesel had been hoarded and sold at inflated prices.
The penalty was imposed under the Essential Commodities Control Act. Officials also ordered that the stored diesel be sold with a limit of five litres per person.
Authorities warned that stricter action would be taken if the fuel is not sold at government-set prices. They added that monitoring of fuel supply and sales will continue to prevent irregularities.
