Former Member of Parliament and President of Chuadanga District Awami League, Solaiman Haque Joarder Selun, was laid to rest beside his mother`s grave at the Jannatul Mawla Graveyard in Chuadanga on Saturday.
His funeral prayer was held at 11:30 AM at the First Capital University grounds, following a guard of honor.
He was later buried next to his mother, Achia Begum, around 12:30 PM, confirmed former Public Prosecutor of Chuadanga Judge Court, Md. Belal Hossain.
Joarder Selun passed away on Friday evening at around 7:15 PM while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Dhaka. His body arrived in Chuadanga on Saturday morning.
He was 79 at the time of his death and had been suffering from multiple age-related illnesses. Previously, he had sought medical treatment in India and Bangkok.
After the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government on August 5 last year, Joarder Selun went into hiding along with his family. Recently, his health condition worsened, leading to his hospitalization in Dhaka.
His funeral was attended by his nephew, former Chairman of Chuadanga Sadar Upazila Parishad Noim Hasan Joarder, along with local Awami League leaders, party activists, and residents. Before the funeral, he was given a guard of honor, and many paid floral tribute to the late freedom fighter.
Joarder Selun was elected as a Member of Parliament from Chuadanga-1 constituency in the 2008 national elections with the Awami League’s boat symbol. He went on to win the next three consecutive parliamentary elections from the same seat.
