Many die as launch, hit by cargo vessel, sinks in Shitalakkhya

A launch carrying around 30 passengers sank in the Shitalakkhya River as a cargo vessel hit it near Al Aminnagar in Narayanganj Sunday afternoon.

The bodies of one Joynal Abedin and three others have been rescued as of  5:30pm.

At least two of the rest victims are believed to be women, accordidng to media reports. 

The Munshiganj-bound launch capsized in the river as cargo vessel MV City-9 hit it around 2:30 pm, according to Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters.

Three firefighting units are working to rescue the passengers.
