Early this morning, President M Abdul Hamid left Dhaka for a 16-day checkup tour in Germany and the UK.
Around 3.20 a.m. today, a regular Qatar Airways flight (QY639) carrying the President and his wife Rashida Khanam departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka.
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huq, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Moroccan Ambassador to Bangladesh Majid Halim, British High Commissioner Robert Chatterton Dickson, Ambassador of Germany to Bangladesh Achim Tr"ster and other high-ranking civil and military officials saw the President off at the VVIP lounge of the airport.
A medical examination for President Hamid is scheduled at a hospital in Germany and an eye clinic in London.
The president has long been suffering from glaucoma, an eye disease that damages the optical nerve.
On November 13, the president of the country is expected to fly back from London.
