It doesn’t matter whether BNP joins polls or not: Abdur Razzak

Agriculture Minister and Awami League presidium member Dr Md Abdur Razzak said, “There will be a fair election in the country on time as per the constitution. It doesn’t matter if BNP or any party doesn’t join the polls. But we will try our best until the last moment so that BNP participates in the elections.”

The minister said this at the golden jubilee and reunion function of Shaheed Smriti High School at Madhupur in Tangail on Saturday morning.

Dr Abdur Razzak said, “We will know whether they (BNP) will come to the elections by next September. I firmly believe that they will participate in the elections.”

He said even if BNP does not join, the election will be accepted internationally. Some of them may compete the election even if they do not come as a party. Also other parties will participate in the election.”

Stating that Awami League will always keep the door of dialogue open for BNP, Abdur Razzak said, “Dialogue is the best way to resolve any problem. Awami League will always welcome dialogue. But everything should be in the light of the constitution.”

The Awami League stalwart said, “BNP is trying its best to create anarchy in the country again before the election. Recurrence of violence like in 2014-15 in the name of agitation will be strictly resisted. They will not be allowed to wage any hartal or blockade.”

Referring to BNP’s movement as a repetition of failure, the minister said, “BNP could not succeed in any movement in the last 14 years. This time also they will fail, after failing they will give a new programme again. This failed movement will continue to be repeated.”
