The government has approved emergency diesel import proposals to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply amid ongoing instability in the Middle East.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.
According to a Finance Ministry statement, the committee gave in-principle approval to two proposals from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division to address urgent fuel demand.
Under the decision, 100,000 metric tonnes of EN590 (10 PPM) diesel will be imported from AP Energy Investments Limited through direct procurement.
Another 200,000 metric tonnes of EN590 Euro-5 (10 PPM) diesel will be purchased from Superstar International (Group) Limited under the same method.
Officials said the move aims to maintain stability in the domestic fuel market and ensure continuous energy supply in the face of global geopolitical uncertainties.
The government is also taking broader steps to secure adequate fuel reserves to meet rising demand and support economic stability, they added.
