Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh’s Interim Government, recently hinted that the country‍‍`s national election could take place by the end of this year.

He shared this information during a special interview with Japan‍‍`s national broadcaster, NHK.

The political landscape in Bangladesh shifted dramatically on August 5 when former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was removed from power, following a student and public uprising. In the wake of these events, Dr. Yunus stepped in to lead the government and stabilize the nation.

Speaking to NHK, Dr. Yunus, a Nobel Prize-winning economist, highlighted his goal of making Bangladesh more self-reliant and stronger.

He stressed the importance of setting a stable foundation for the next government.

"When we came to power, if you look at the situation then, I believe we have come a long way. Because it was a shattered society, a shattered economy, and a shattered political and judicial system,"

Dr. Yunus explained, reflecting on the challenging conditions the country faced when he took office.

As for the timing of the election, Dr. Yunus suggested that it could be held toward the end of the year, offering a possible timeline for when Bangladesh might go to the polls.

"The earliest possible time for the election could be the end of this year. When the election is held, those who are elected will have a strong foundation to work from," he added.

The Chief Adviser also addressed the potential of the younger generation in Bangladesh, noting their desire to share their creativity and skills with the global community.

"The youth want to showcase their creative potential and share it with the entire world. We have this goal in mind; let’s see how we move forward," Dr. Yunus said, offering a hopeful outlook on the country’s future.

Additionally, Dr. Yunus expressed his gratitude to Japan, acknowledging the nation as Bangladesh‍‍`s most significant development partner.

This recognition comes as Japan continues to play a key role in supporting Bangladesh’s growth and development.

With an election possibly on the horizon and a focus on strengthening the nation‍‍`s foundation, Dr. Yunus’ statements offer a glimpse into the government‍‍`s plans for the future, which will surely be closely watched both domestically and internationally.
