Celebs mourn the loss of Fakir Alamgir

Eminent Bangladeshi musician Fakir Alamgir suffered a cardiac arrest while undergoing Covid-19 treatment at capital’s United Hospital and was declared dead at 10:56pm. Bangladeshi media personalities, musicians, political leaders and people from all walks of life have been mourning the loss of the legendary folk singer and Ekushey Padak awardee.

The Report’s Showbiz team have compiled some of the tributes paid by renowned media personalities online after the news of his death.

The news of his death is currently a trending topic on Facebook.

 

 

Musician, activist, poet and Baul researcher, Maqsoodul Haque who is best known for his music with one of Bangladesh's pioneering bands Feedback shared an interesting photo of the folk legend. Fakir Alamgir is seen with Ferdous Wahid, Pilu Mumtaz, Firoz Shai, and Azam Khan. He dubbed these five as the five Khalifa’s of Bangladesh’s band music movement.

 

Bangladeshi singer, lyricist and composer Shubhashish Mojumder Bappa, popularly known as Bappa Mazumder, also shared his tribute note for the late freedom fighter.


 

Renowned Bangladeshi musician Tishma also posted her experiences with Fakir Alamgir.

 

Popular Bangladeshi bands Shunno and Cryptic Fate also posted their prayers for the late folk legend.

 

 

 

Imran Mahmudul, a popular singer-songwriter of Bangladesh, prayed for the legend’s belated soul and posted a photo of Alamgir.

 

Musician and Joler Gaan frontman Rahul Anand posted a photo and sent his prayers to the late freedom fighter.

 

Popular Bangladeshi singer Kona posted that legends do not die and Fakir Alamgir will continue to live on in every household of Bangladesh.

 

Bangladeshi singer, songwriter Joy Shariar posted a remembrance album on his verified Facebook profile on behalf f Bangladesh Singers’ Association. Fakir Alamgir was an advisor of the organisation.

 

 

Popular Bangladeshi writer and activist Taslima Nasrin also took to her verified Facebook page to share a few words and a photo of her and Alamgir at her former home in capital’s Shantinagar region.    

 

 

Acclaimed Bangladeshi actor Chanchal Chowdhury posted a photo of Alamgir taken by him. He wrote that how much Alamgir loved taking photos and he can not take any more photos of him.

 

 

Bangladeshi politician, former State Minister of Post and Telecommunications Division, lawyer, actor, playwright and renowned media personality Tarana Halim also prayed for the Shadhin Bangla Betar Kendra activist.

 

Deputy Minister of Education and Member of Parliament Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury prayed for the departed’s soul and extended his sympathy to Alamgir’s family members and loved ones.

 

Immensely popular Bangladeshi television host and media personality also shared his memories with Fakir Alamgir. He dubbed the belated musician as the “voice of the oppressed.” His remembrance post became viral on Facebook on early Saturday (July 24).

Former Prothom Alo journo Mehdi Masood shared his last words with the late legend and shared a photo of Alamgir on his Facebook profile.

 

Alamgir, 71, breathed his last at capital’s United Hospital around 10:57 pm on Friday (July 23) due to COVID-19 complications. 

He was fully vaccinated against the disease yet got diagnosed with a respiratory illness on July 14. He had to be hospitalised the following day due to breathing issues. 

Bangladesh President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have already paid their tribute to Alamgir. They remembered the role he played in strengthening patriotism and the Liberation War spirit among the youth through his songs during 1971. Hamid and Hasina also extended their sympathy to his family and loved ones and also prayed for his belated soul.

Family sources have confirmed, Fakir will be laid to rest at the Khilgaon Taltala Cemetery on Saturday afternoon.
