After being questioned for more than 15 hours, popular actresses Meher Afroz Shaon and Sohana Saba were finally released by the Detective Branch (DB) of the police.
The news of their release was confirmed by Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Police Commissioner of DMP`s Media and Public Relations Department, on Friday, February 7.
Talebur Rahman stated,
"Actresses Meher Afroz Shaon and Sohana Saba were interrogated in connection with allegations of conspiracy against the state. After the questioning, they were both released into the custody of their respective families."
The actresses were initially taken into custody on Thursday, February 6.
Shaon was picked up in the evening, and Sohana Saba was detained later that night, both facing accusations of involvement in anti-state activities.
According to sources from the DB, after Shaon, Sohana Saba had been under close observation.
There are accusations against Saba related to conspiracy against the government.
Furthermore, reports suggest that Saba was an active member of a pro-Awami League WhatsApp group called "Alo Asbei" (Light Will Come), which is linked to artists supporting the ruling party.
The long hours of questioning and the high-profile nature of the actresses involved in this case have caught the public’s attention.
While both have been released for now, it remains to be seen how the allegations will unfold and if further legal action will be taken.
This case has raised concerns about the involvement of celebrities in political matters, especially with accusations of state conspiracy.
