Fakir Alamgir in critical condition, son denies death rumour

Acclaimed Bangladeshi folk singer Fakir Alamgir's condition is currently critical and his family members have confirmed that almost 60% of his lungs have been damaged by the Covid-19 virus. 

A rumour of his death spread like wildfire in Bangladeshi social media feeds on Friday evening. His son Masuk Alamgir Rajib told several media outlets that these rumours are “baseless.” 

He also requested netizens to not spread such news. He added that his father is fighting for his life and hopes that his fans will pray for his speediest recovery.

He is currently in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) of capital’s United Hospital. He was admitted to the hospital on Thursday (July 15) night after being tested positive with Covid-19 virus.

Alamgir is best known for his contributions to Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra during the 1971 Liberation War.

He joined the 1969's Gonoobhutthan as a member of the Kranti Shilpi Gosthi and Gono Shilpi Gosthi.

The musician received the prestigious Ekushey Padak, the second-highest civilian award in Bangladesh, back in 1999 for his contribution to Bangladeshi music.
