Dhallywood star Mahiya Mahi, who hoped to win the by-election to the Chapainawabganj-2 seat by 50,000 votes, has been denied nomination by the ruling party.
She collected the nomination form from the Awami League president's political office in Dhanmondi on December.
Instead, the party picked Ziaur Rahman for Chapainawabganj-2 constituency,
The decision was taken at a meeting of AL Parliamentary Nomination Board with board President Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair at her official residence Ganabhaban on Sunday evening.
AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader disclosed the decision after the meeting.
