Bangladesh seal historic T20I series win over Sri Lanka

Bangladesh ended their tour of Sri Lanka on a high with a dominant 8-wicket win in the third and final T20I, securing the series 2–1.

Chasing a modest target of 133 at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Litton Das’s side reached the finish line with 21 balls to spare.

After losing the opening match, Bangladesh bounced back strongly to win the next two and claim their first-ever T20I series victory against Sri Lanka.

It also marks their fifth T20I series win away from home. With this triumph, Litton Das became the first Bangladeshi captain to win more than one T20I series abroad. Under his leadership, Bangladesh had earlier whitewashed West Indies on their home turf in 2023.

Returning to the playing XI, Mehidy Hasan Miraz delivered a career-best performance, taking 4 wickets for just 11 runs in 4 overs, including a maiden. His off-spin dismantled Sri Lanka’s top order, earning him Player of the Match honors.

On the batting front, Tanzid Hasan led the chase with a stunning knock of 73 off 47 balls, laced with 1 four and 6 sixes—his highest T20I score to date.

Sri Lanka, after winning the toss and opting to bat, struggled early, losing 3 wickets within the first five overs. Shariful Islam removed Kusal Mendis in the first over, followed by Mehidy dismissing Kusal Perera and Dinesh Chandimal in quick succession.

Mehidy also bowled Charith Asalanka in the 8th over and later took the key wicket of Pathum Nissanka, who top-scored for Sri Lanka with 46 off 39 balls.

Kamindu Mendis attempted a counterattack but managed only 21 runs off 15 balls. In the final over, Dasun Shanaka hit two fours and two sixes off Shariful Islam, scoring an unbeaten 35 off 25 deliveries to help Sri Lanka post a fighting total.

Apart from Shariful, who conceded 50 runs in 4 overs for 1 wicket, Bangladesh’s bowlers were economical. Mustafizur Rahman gave away just 17 runs in his 4 overs and picked up a wicket.

In the chase, Bangladesh had a shaky start, losing Parvez Hossain Imon for a golden duck—the fifth duck of his 15-match career, and third off the first ball. Litton Das survived an early scare through DRS and went on to build a 74-run stand in 50 balls with Tanzid.

Litton fell for 32 off 26 in the 9th over while going for a big shot. Tanzid then completed his fifth T20I fifty off 27 balls and partnered with Towhid Hridoy to see the team through. Hridoy remained unbeaten on 27 off 25 balls, hitting a four and a six.

Bangladesh’s clinical performance with both bat and ball not only sealed the match but also scripted a memorable series victory.
