Tanzim Hasan Sakib, a pacer for Bangladesh men`s cricket team, has told Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) that he regrets his Facebook statements but insists that neither he nor his posts were intended to offend anyone or be offensive to women.
Jalal Yunus, the chairman of the operations committee for the BCB, revealed this to reporters after speaking with the young bowler, who has drawn criticism for his misogynistic social media posts criticizing working women.
The player who was in the Under-19 World Cup winning team, recently made his debut for Bangladesh against India in the Asia Cup, picking up two key wickets in a six-run victory for Bangladesh.
In the same week that the player was the subject of praise from cricket fans, Facebook posts from last year that he had written had gone viral. In those writings, he questioned the modesty of working women and the morality of women who attend the same universities as male students.
"We have spoken to Tanjim Sakib from the BCB`s cricket operations. The Facebook posts he had posted were something we had brought to his attention," Younus said.
Younus talked to Sakib at the BCB office on Tuesday, and Sakib said that he didn`t mean to upset anyone with those posts.
"He admitted writing the misogynistic comments but insisted that he does not dislike women. We have cautioned him and informed him that BCB will monitor any more posts he makes," the BCB official continued.
When questioned if the young cricketer would face any consequences, Younus responded that the cricketer had been reminded of the BCB`s code of conduct.
