Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President and former national team captain Aminul Islam Bulbul has officially announced his candidacy for a director’s post in the upcoming BCB elections.
Bulbul made the announcement on Tuesday while inspecting the district stadium in Sylhet. Speaking to journalists, he said, “I want to continue contributing to the country through cricket.”
The BCB elections are expected to be held on October 4, as decided in a board meeting on Monday. Just a day later, Bulbul confirmed that he would take part in the polls. “Inshallah, the election will be held in the first week of October. This is not about electing a president but about electing directors. That is the main objective, and I will try to be part of it,” he explained.
Bulbul took over as BCB President in May after Faruque Ahmed was forced to step down following a no-confidence motion against him. At the time of assuming office, Bulbul had said he would serve only until October, describing it as a “T20 innings.” However, he has since changed his stance.
Interestingly, only weeks earlier, Bulbul had told the media he had no intention of contesting the election. “I had said I would never run in an election. How can I? I don’t have the resources needed for it. I came here through the National Sports Council. If they continue with me, I will stay and try my best,” he said at the time.
