FIFA has condemned racist abuse directed at popular American streamer IShowSpeed during a FIFA World Cup match in the United States, saying discrimination has no place in football.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, world football‍‍`s governing body said it had launched an investigation after becoming aware of an incident involving the social media star and a spectator during Argentina‍‍`s Round-of-32 match against Cabo Verde in Miami on July 3.

"FIFA strongly condemns racism, hate and discrimination in all forms," the organisation said, adding that the World Cup is built on the values of unity, diversity and respect.

IShowSpeed, whose real name is Darren Watkins Jr., has been attending and livestreaming World Cup matches under a partnership involving FIFA, host broadcaster Fox Sports and YouTube, allowing him to simulcast official match coverage.

During his livestream from the Argentina-Cabo Verde match, a fan leaning over the stands allegedly directed a racist remark at the content creator after he responded to attempts to get his attention.

With more than 150 million followers across YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and X, IShowSpeed has become one of the most recognisable online personalities at the tournament, regularly attracting large crowds of fans inside and outside stadiums.

FIFA said it would not tolerate behaviour that undermines the values of the World Cup and reaffirmed its commitment to combating racism and all forms of discrimination.
