Tamim Iqbal withdraws candidacy from BCB election

The Bangladesh cricket fraternity has been abuzz for weeks over the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) election, and now it has taken a fresh turn as former national team captain Tamim Iqbal has withdrawn his candidacy.

The deadline for withdrawing nominations was set at 12 pm today. Around 10 am, Tamim appeared at the BCB office beside the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur with the necessary documents and officially pulled out of the race, his close sources confirmed.

Tamim reportedly expressed dissatisfaction over the BCB’s decision not to grant councillorship to several clubs. Although his nomination had survived the final scrutiny, the left-handed batter voluntarily stepped aside from the election.

The BCB election is scheduled for October 6. Just yesterday, candidates from 15 clubs also announced their withdrawal, citing various issues. Within 24 hours, Tamim followed suit. He had earlier alleged government interference in the board’s electoral process and even held a press conference alongside BNP leader Ishraq Ahmed. However, he has now chosen to step back before contesting the polls.

Along with Tamim, several other director candidates—including Rafiqul Islam Babu, Syed Borhanul Islam, Saeed Ibrahim, and Israfil Khasru—have also withdrawn from the race.
