Police files case accusing protesting students of SUST

Police have filed a case against 200 to 300 unidentified protesting students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) in Sylhet. The accused in the sabotage case have been charged with obstruction of police duty, cocktail blast, shooting and assault with intent to kill a policeman.

Abdul Hannan, Jalalabad police sub-inspector (SI) filed the case on Monday night.

However, no student's name was mentioned in the case, said Deputy Commissioner of Metropolitan Police (North) Azbahar Ali Sheikh said, “No one will be harassed in this case."

"Students are not being arrested. Police fired shots at the incident that day, police members were injured. The police needs to justify their act, hence the case has been filed. However, no one's name was mentioned in the case or in the case statement," he added.

According to the case statement, Vice-Chancellor of SUST Farid Uddin Ahmed was confined to a room in the university premises following a three-point demand from the students including the resignation of Begum Sirajunnesa Chowdhury Hall President Jafrin Ahmed. When law enforcers entererd the campus to free the VC, the students obstructed police duty at around 5:30 pm on Sunday.
