Pahela Baishakh celebrated in missions abroad

Bangladesh missions abroad celebrated the Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bengali New Year, on Thursday through different traditional programmes of Bangali culture.

Welcoming the Bengali New year, Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Mumbai and Bangladesh Embassy in Tashkent organised various programmes, according to messages received here on Friday.

The programmes included reading out the messages of the president and the prime minister, organizing cultural functions, holding discussions, arranging iftar, offering traditional foods and decorating buildings with lights, the messages said.

Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner in Mumbai Chiranjib Sarker attended the programmes organized by Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Mumbai.

Expatriate Bangladeshis living in Mumbai, Indian Bengalis, heads and representatives of various diplomatic missions, think tanks and civil society's representatives, Indian Navy representatives, local dignitaries and embassy officials and their families were also present.
