Age limit for entry to govt jobs raised to 32

The government has made a decision to increase the upper age limit for government job applicants to 32 years.

The announcement was made during a meeting of the advisory council of the interim government on Thursday, as stated in a press release from the Cabinet Division.

According to the press release, the government has granted policy and final approval to the draft ordinance called “Maximum Age Limit for Direct Recruitment to Government Jobs, 2024.”

This ordinance establishes the maximum age limit for direct recruitment into government jobs, autonomous, semi-autonomous, statutory bodies, and public non-financial corporations at 32 years.

The age limit of 32 years will apply to all categories within the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS).

Likewise, this age restriction will also be relevant for government positions outside the BCS framework.

For autonomous and semi-autonomous agencies, their specific recruitment guidelines will still be applicable with necessary modifications.

However, the recruitment regulations for defense personnel and law enforcement agencies will continue to remain the same.

Moreover, under the provisions of this ordinance and the authority given by Section 59A of the Public Service Act, 2018, the Ministry of Public Administration will update the Bangladesh Civil Service Recruitment Rules, 2014. This update will introduce a new rule permitting candidates to take the BCS exam a maximum of three times.
