Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon has indicated that the schedule for next year’s SSC and equivalent examinations may be revised.

He said the government had earlier decided to hold the exams from January 7 next year, but the schedule could be pushed back by a month following requests from stakeholders because Ramadan falls in February. However, no final decision has been made yet.

The minister made the remarks while speaking to reporters at the Secretariat on Tuesday, after a courtesy meeting between Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and officials of the Education Ministry.

Milon said the government had initially planned to hold the SSC exams in the last week of February, aiming to complete them before Ramadan. But as Ramadan will begin in February next year, that plan is no longer feasible.

“Holding the exams before Ramadan is also not possible,” he said.

The education minister said the government was still giving importance to the opinions of stakeholders regarding the SSC schedule.

He said the routine had initially been prepared with the aim of completing the exams before Ramadan. But different quarters are now giving opinions in favour of finishing the exams after Ramadan.

“We are giving importance to public opinion and the views of stakeholders. If necessary, there will be further discussions,” Milon said.

He said education is a collective matter involving guardians, students, teachers, the media and others, and the final decision would be taken after considering everyone’s views.

The minister said the SSC examination is an important public exam, and completion of the full syllabus is essential.

He said the government would consider students’ preparation, syllabus completion and overall realities before finalising any change to the schedule.

“Earlier, many wanted the exams to be completed before Ramadan. We made the decision and prepared the routine accordingly. Now different opinions are coming. So the next decision will be taken through discussion and review,” he said.
