Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka once again combined sport and fashion on one of tennis’ biggest stages, arriving at the French Open in a bold custom-designed outfit inspired by the sparkling lights of the Eiffel Tower.

The four-time Grand Slam champion appeared on Court Suzanne-Lenglen wearing a dramatic layered look that included a sleeveless beaded top and a long black pleated skirt.

Before the start of her opening-round match, Osaka removed the outer pieces to reveal a shimmering gold playing dress.

Osaka later explained that the look was influenced by the nighttime glow of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

She described the design as “couture” and said the glittering effect reminded her of the famous landmark when it lights up after dark.

The Japanese star backed up the fashion statement with a strong performance on court, defeating Germany’s Laura Siegemund 6-3, 7-6 (3) to advance to the next round.

According to Osaka, the gold dress was created by Nike, while the outer outfit was designed by Swiss fashion designer Kevin Germanier.

Osaka has built a reputation for making memorable fashion appearances during major tournaments. Earlier this year at the Australian Open, she appeared wearing a large hat, veil and parasol.

During last year’s US Open, she incorporated sparkling red rose accessories into her match-day look.

She also recently drew attention at the Met Gala in New York, continuing her growing presence in both sports and fashion culture.

Speaking after the match, Osaka said she enjoys expressing her personality through clothing and sees entertainment as part of professional sport.

She added that Grand Slam tournaments provide a platform for athletes to showcase individuality beyond performance.

The former world No. 1 also joked that she worried the reflective gold fabric might shine too brightly under the sun and potentially cause issues during the match.

Because of that concern, she said she kept backup outfits prepared.

Elsewhere at the French Open, world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka also attracted attention by wearing diamond necklaces during her match, highlighting how player fashion continues to become part of the conversation at major tennis events.
