12kg LPG cylinder price reduced by Tk 55

The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has reduced the retail price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for June. The price of a 12kg LPG cylinder has been reduced by Tk 55 to Tk 1,885.

BERC announced the new pricing in a statement issued on Tuesday, saying the revised rates will take effect from 6:00 pm the same day.

According to the announcement, the price of a 12kg LPG cylinder for June has been reduced from Tk 1,940 to Tk 1,885.

At the same time, the price of autogas has also been lowered. Including VAT, the price per litre of autogas has been cut by Tk 2.59 to Tk 86.93.

Previously, LPG prices remained unchanged in May. However, the commission adjusted prices twice in April. On April 2, the price of a 12kg cylinder was increased by Tk 387 to Tk 1,728.

Later, on April 19, BERC raised the price by a further Tk 212, setting the retail price of a 12kg cylinder at Tk 1,940.

BERC has been setting LPG prices in Bangladesh since April 2021. Propane and butane, the main components used in LPG production, are imported from various countries. Their monthly benchmark prices are published by Saudi Arabia’s Saudi Aramco and are known as the Saudi Contract Price (CP).

BERC uses the Saudi CP as the benchmark for determining domestic LPG prices. In addition, the commission calculates an average exchange rate for the entire month based on the invoice values submitted by importing companies and adjusts LPG prices accordingly.
