Starting tomorrow (July 25), commuter trains will run on short-distance routes, announced Md Arifuzzaman, Additional Director General of Bangladesh Railway, on Wednesday.
"We plan to operate one or two commuter trains on short-distance routes from tomorrow. Restoring inter-city train services will depend on the improvement of the current situation," he informed UNB.
Arifuzzaman highlighted that network disruptions were causing delays in train services, exacerbated by the availability of online tickets.
In the initial phase, commuter trains will run on routes like Dhaka-Narayanganj and Ishwardi. Efforts are also underway to resume services on the Dhaka-Joydebpur route, he added.
The Burimari commuter train will operate from Lalmonirhat district, according to the additional DG.
He further mentioned that freight and oil-carrying trains have been operational since Monday.
