The Embassy of Algeria in Dhaka organised a condolence book signing to honour former Algerian president Liamine Zéroual, with diplomats and members of civil society paying tribute to his legacy.
The event was attended by ambassadors, high commissioners and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with representatives of civil society. Participants expressed sympathy and solidarity with Algeria while remembering Zéroual’s leadership during an important period in the country’s history.
Speakers at the programme praised his role in promoting peace, stability and international cooperation. They also highlighted the strong and friendly relations between Bangladesh and Algeria.
Zéroual, born in 1941 in Batna, began his career in the Algerian army at a young age and rose through the ranks to hold key positions. He later served as Algeria’s ambassador to Romania and went on to become chief of land forces in 1989.
The condolence event reflected respect for his contributions both as a military leader and a statesman.
