Biman Bangladesh Airlines is set to sign an agreement with Boeing to buy 14 new aircraft, marking its largest fleet expansion in recent years.
The signing ceremony will be held on Wednesday evening in Dhaka, with several senior government officials and diplomats expected to attend.
Under the deal, Biman plans to purchase eight Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners, two 787-9 Dreamliners and four 737-8 MAX aircraft.
Officials said the move aims to modernise the airline’s fleet, increase passenger capacity and improve both long-haul and regional services.
The Dreamliner aircraft will mainly be used on routes to Europe, the Middle East and Asia, while the 737 MAX jets will support short and medium-distance flights.
The expansion comes as the new terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport prepares to begin operations, which is expected to boost Bangladesh’s position as a regional aviation hub.
The deal follows years of competition between Boeing and Airbus over Biman’s fleet plans, with Boeing securing the latest order.
Officials said the agreement reflects growing demand for air travel and the airline’s plans to expand its network in the coming years.
