Deadline for submitting tax returns extended until February 16

The deadline for submitting income tax returns has been extended yet again. You now have until February 16 to file your return.

This decision was announced in a notice issued on Thursday, signed by HM Shahriar Hasan, the second secretary of the Tax Policy Wing at the National Board of Revenue (NBR).

This is the third time the deadline has been extended. Initially, the last date for filing was January 31, but after two separate extensions on December 29 and November 17, the deadline was pushed back by a month each time.

Officials pointed out that in certain cases, it is necessary to file income tax returns online. Considering this, the NBR decided to extend the deadline once more.

As of January 27, about 34 lakh returns have already been filed for the 2023-24 fiscal year, with over 40 lakh individual taxpayers expected to submit their returns.
