The highest decision making body of Dhaka University (DU), syndicate, sat in an emergency meeting under the guard of BGB on Wednesday (July 17) at the Vice-Chancellor of the University Dr ASM Maksud Kamal‍‍`s office.

At this time, a large number of BGB members were seen patrolling in front of his office.

Syndicate member Abul Mansur Ahmed, who was present at the meeting, confirmed the matter.

The highest policy-making forum of the university has started this meeting to determine the next course of action due to the clashes with the Chhatra League and the agitators on the campus over the ongoing quota reform movement. From this meeting a decision will be taken regarding the closure of universities and halls.

On Tuesday night, the UGC wrote to the Vice-Chancellors instructing all universities in the country to remain closed until further notice and to vacate the halls of residence of the students.

The movement to demand quota reform started in the universities. Protests spread across the country yesterday after the attack and clash of BCL on students last Monday. Students left the educational institution and came down to the streets and blocked the roads and highways. Protesting students were also attacked in different areas of the country yesterday.
