Fly Jinnah, an airline based in Karachi, is set to begin direct flights between Dhaka and Karachi in the near future.
This news comes from a report by the Indian news agency ANI, which quoted Bangladeshi government officials on Monday.
According to the report, after the launch of direct cargo ship services between Chittagong and Karachi, the air connection between Bangladesh and Pakistan is now ready to take off.
Abdul Nasir Khan, the Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Civil Aviation, was quoted saying,
"The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has granted Fly Jinnah approval to operate direct flights between Bangladesh and Pakistan. We are going to sign an agreement to kick off the Dhaka-Karachi flights."
Earlier, on January 13, Pakistan`s Ambassador to Bangladesh, Syed Ahmed Maruf, told the leaders of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) in Dhaka that direct flights between Bangladesh and Pakistan will begin this year.
The Pakistani High Commissioner also mentioned,
"Both the governments of Pakistan and Bangladesh are working seriously to establish direct air links. Direct flights will start this year. Pakistani businesses can use this air corridor to expand their export markets in the Middle East and Central Asia."
