Police have arrested a councillor of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) for reported rape attempt on a woman.
Farooq Ahmed, 50, was picked up from his home in the Ershad Nagar area of the city on Friday afternoon immediately after the victim lodged a complaint with police.
Jabed Masud, officer-in-charge (OC) of Tongi East police station, confirmed the matter.
According to the case statement, Farooq had a love affair with the victim. When she went to Farooq’s place to meet him on 23 May, he took the advantage of empty house and attempted to rape her.
Later, she managed to flee the scene.
