The high court issues a rule asking why steps would not be taken to shutdown unregistered news portal, IP TV and news related facebook pages.
Alongside, the court also asked to know why any provision would not be formed regarding the educational qualification of journalists.
A virtual HC bench of justice M Enayetur Rahim and justice Md. Mostafizur Rahman issued the rule after initial hearing on a writ petition to this connection. However, the matter was disclosed on Monday (September 6).
Information secretary, home secretary, IGP, RAB directorate general, BRTC Chairman and Press Council Chairman were directed to reply the rule within two weeks.
Court sources said, the writ petition was filed by Sylhet’s Bianibazar press club general secretary Milad Mohammed Jainul Islam last month. Lawyer Syeda Rafika Khatun took part in the hearing on behalf of the writ while deputy attorney general Bipul Bagmar was on the prosecution.
Petitioner Rakfika Khatun said, very often news is published with fake and controversial information. Unregistered news portal, IP TV and facebook pages are spreading such misleading news. And such incidents are occurring every now and then which create contrary reaction among the people.
