Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that India does not need to do advocacy in favor of Bangladesh.
Referring to a question regarding the recent bizarre development with U.S. government over Bangladesh’s election, PM said India knows where she should speak in a mature way.
“I believe India is matured enough and knows where she should speak how much and which level,” she said.
PM Sheikh Hasina was replying to questions at her official residence Gonobhaban on Wednesday (June 21) to inform the nation about her recent visit to Qatar and Switzerland.
This development came, when a journalist urged for a clear stance of Bangladesh regarding Indian newspaper’s reports stating that Bangladesh sought for Indian PM Narendra Modi’s advocacy during his U.S. visit over a tempted relations centering upcoming internal elections.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached U.S. for an official state-level visit to the US. President Joe Biden will host a state dinner on June 22.
Local journalists asked Bangladeshi Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen on Monday whether the Bangladesh issue will be there in Biden-Modi meeting, Momen then said they will discuss what they will feel good about.
The minister said he has nothing to talk about that meeting. “India is a mature democratic country. India has a very strong leadership. There is no need for Bangladesh`s advocacy,” he added then.
PM Sheikh Hasina also criticized journalists’ role to mislead the comment of Momen.
She said that media outlets published partial remark of foreign minister instead of the complete one.
