At least 207 people have been killed in multiple road mishaps in 11 days before and after Eid-ul-Adha leaving 389 people injured.
The information was revealed on Monday (July 26) in a report produced by Road Safety Foundation that works with road accidents.
A total of 158 mishaps occurred in last 11 days during Eid travel across the country. The incidents killed 207 people and injured 389, the report read.
The report was produced based on news published in 7 national dailies, 5 online portals and other electronic media.
Motorcycle accidents killed the most victims, the report said. Some 76 motorbike accidents occurred by this time killing 87.
According to the report, mishaps also took place in water ways killing 2 and leaving 26 injured. Another 2 were killed in railway mishaps.
59 incident occurred in national highways while 66 in local roads, 19 in city areas and 14 in rural areas. Dhaka division accounted the most incidents taking the figure at 33 where 48 people lost their lives. Sylhet division was listed as the least mishaps area accounting 4 mishaps that killed 4 people.
In Rangpur district, 15 people were killed in 5 accidents while Sunamganj accounted a single mishap with no casualty.
Faulty vehicles, reckless speed, inefficiency of drivers, physical and mental sickness, lack of proper framework of wage and working hour and movement of limited-speed vehicles on highways were the main reasons behind all road mishaps, the report said.
