The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has taken significant action against Sheikh Hasina and her family, freezing a total of 124 bank accounts.
This comes after the family’s removal from power in the student uprising.
Along with the freezing of these bank accounts, seven valuable assets, including the Dhanmondi residence of Sheikh Hasina, Sudha Sadan, have been seized.
A source from the ACC confirmed the development today, Tuesday.
According to reports, the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) discovered that the 124 frozen accounts collectively hold a massive sum of Tk 635 crore 14 lakh.
These accounts are linked to Sheikh Hasina, her family, and individuals or organizations associated with them.
In addition to the accounts, the BFIU has also blocked assets, including a 60-katha plot under the Rajuk Development Authority (RAJUK), valued at Tk 1 crore 80 lakh.
Additionally, eight flats, with 10% of land worth Tk 8 crore 85 lakh, have been seized as well.
These actions were revealed during a high-level meeting titled “Recovering Embezzled Assets, Measures Taken, and Challenges,” which took place on Monday.
The meeting was chaired by Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. Later, the information was made public by the Press Wing of the Chief Advisor`s Office.
