Status quo on BFAA general secretary post stays

The apex court has upheld the status quo order by the Chamber Court on the Bangladesh Film Artistes Association general secretary’s post, directing the High Court to settle its stay order on the decision to scrap Zayed Khan’s candidacy.

A full bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order on Monday after settling actor Nipun Akter’s appeal against the stay order, reports bdnews.

Lawyers Rokanuddin Mahmud and Mostafizur Rahman represented Nipun Akter, while lawyer Ahsanul Karim represented Zayed Khan.

The High Court is scheduled to hold a hearing over the stay order on Tuesday.

On February 9, the Appellate Division imposed the status quo, two days after the High Court stayed the decision of an appellate board that cancelled the candidacy of Zayed.

The court also issued a rule asking authorities concerned to explain in a week as to why it should not declare illegal a letter of the Department of Social Services giving the ultimate authority to the appellate board in taking such a decision, and the decision of the appellate board cancelling the candidacy of Zayed.
